How do people search for information before they buy something?

Whilst reviews on the internet can be useful, many reviews can be highly misleading.

Some are written by friends or relatives and others are paid reviews or product endorsements that are not disclosed as such. Even professional review sites contain biased reviews if the reviewer accepts undisclosed gifts and payments.

On the flipside, there are unjustifiably negative reviews written by disgruntled customers or competitors on the internet. It's certainly a rough world out there!

2. Word of Mouth

In comparison, word of mouth recommendations are a far more reliable source of information.

However, word of mouth recommendations have the following limitations:

• Our personal circle of friends may not be large enough to provide us with the answers we are looking for, and
• Friends may not have the expertise or experience to provide us with good feedback.

However, our friends may know someone who knows.

The answers we are looking for could be just one or two connections away but there is no way for you to access those pools of knowledge.
